Izakaya fare goes upscale at Censu

Looking a new Japanese joint? Censu is a new Japanese restaurant on NoHo’s Gough Street helmed by Chef Shun Sato, who previously led the kitchen at Fukuro, Ho Lee Fook and Armani/Aqua and is his first independent venture. The menu is an interplay of traditional izakaya cooking and Michelin-style gastronomy, with standout plates including squid white kimuchi (sliced squid sashimi with white kimchi fermented with green apple and daikon) and unigiri, a risotto-style dish featuring onigiri cooked and served in abalone dashi, topped with uni. Another menu highlight is the zucchini flower tempura filled with a scallop prawn mousse and truffle purée. The interior is just as stylish as the menu: a large unpolished walnut table sits at the heart of the restaurant, while rustic plastered walls underline its simple design aesthetic
