Specialist tour operator Journey Latin America has launched its brand-new holiday to Guyana. Signature Guyana: Wildlife and Waterfalls is a 12-day private journey that explores Guyana’s capital city, Georgetown, and its colourful markets before heading deep into the country’s lush and pristine interior.
Stopping first at Kaieteur Falls, visitors will have the opportunity to observe the world’s largest single-drop waterfall. Continue south to Atta Rainforest Lodge for wildlife spotting on canopy walkways and nature trails. Agoutis, tayras, tapirs, black curassows and jaguars inhabit this region. Then venture by road and boat to the very remote Karanambu Lodge in the Rupununi. Here you will observe giant anteaters and giant river otters. Travellers will also have the opportunity to support and participate in a study into the endangered black caiman – the largest member of the alligator family.
Another highlight of the region is a Victoria Amazonica waterlily boat trip at sunset. The penultimate stop is at Waikin Lodge near Lethem on the border with Brazil. Experience life on a real working ranch and visit Nappi Village for a cookery class.
